Popular bullion coin, wedding or christening gift
The restrike of the Austrian gold coin, the quadruple gold Ducat with the year 1915, is a desirable bullion coin due to its large size of 39.68 mm, its attractive design, and its high fineness of gold (13.76g AU). It is also very popular as a wedding or christening gift.
The 4 Ducat gold piece shows the portrait of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) on the obverse and the double-headed eagle, the heraldic bird of the imperial and royal monarchy of Austria-Hungary, on the reverse.
The quadruple gold Ducat, which served as the model for this restrike, first came into circulation in 1872 and was official currency. It was minted for the last time in 1914. The restrikes, which are traded today as bullion coins, therefore bear the year 1915, although they are still minted today by the Austrian Mint, the state mint in Vienna.
